Historian's Report

USTA Team - We had, for the first time in the club's 120 year old
history, a woman's team in a USTA league. Managed by club members Rene
Battista & Nancy Hanula, the team won the Central Penn Division 6.0
Ladies Championship, qualifying to compete in the USTA sectional
championship in Princeton, NJ. They did not win sectionals but ended the
year very successfully. The team was made up of 17 members, all over the age
of 40. Team members were Jennie Barbieri, Rene Battista, Erika Bodell, Jill
Brenneman, Roberta Brummel, Amanda Christman, Sandra Crespo, Terri Emler,
Laura Fiore, Jacqueline Francis, Nancy Hanula, Suzan Jaskulis, Amy Kauffman,
Dorothy Love, Megan Maurer, Victoria Miller and Susan Wolf.
- Central
PA Doubles League (Monday night league) team, managed by Steve Berkley,
ended the 2023 season in 5th place. Racquet Club West ended the year with
the best record and Lancaster
Country Club won the season ending playoff.

Creek Cup - We did not play at Bent Creek this year because of construction work
at their club. (They eliminated 2 Hard Tru courts and added 4 hard courts
under a bubble.)
- Walker Cup (Interdistricts)
- Steve Berkley captained the Central PA team, which won the Walker
Cup by beating Delaware in the final match. Central PA won this match,
losing all 3 singles matches but winning all 4 doubles matches (3 of them in
3rd set tie breakers with scores of 10-8, 10-8 and 11-9 and the 4th
match in straight sets.) Five MTC members played on the team; Berkley,
Brown, Donell, Glatsky & Smuck.
- Arthur Ashe
Stadium at the US Open - Three club members (Steve Berkley, Dick
Fleming & J.D. Young) and Mark Royer played at this stadium in 2023.
The stadium was empty with no prize money. See Berkley for photos.
- Wednesday
Morning Doubles League- Like last year Denny Keller scheduled the
matches. The season lasted 26 weeks with only 1 rainout. 56
different players played making up 285 different teams. There were 168
matches which included 57 3rd set tie breakers & 23 regular
tiebreakers. Denny tries to schedule different members together as best he
can. Maust played with 21 different partners, and Hostetter, Miller &
Smuck played with 17 different partners.
- Thursday
Evening play - Dorothy Love
again scheduled the matches.
Had a successful season.
- The
Men's Doubles tournament was won by Rich Brown/Owen Patten.
- The Mixed
Doubles tournament was won by Cathy Tobin/Brian Crouse.
-The Women's
Doubles tournament was won
by Sandra Crespo/Madhavi Reddy.
- The
MTC Closed Singles tournament was won by Mark Lewis. The 65 &
Over tournament was won by Don Musser.
- Social
Committee - Pam Kaylor has retired as chair of the Social Committee.
As of now there is no Social Committee.
- Miscellaneous
- The MTC golf
tournament ended in a tie. Keith
Gish shot a 72 -0 = 72 and Bill Loercher shot a 76 -4 = 72.
- Denny reports
there were 87 members in the club in 2023; 56 regular members, 8 new
members, 5 juniors, 7 part year, 6 husband/wife & 5 life members.
