Cathy
Tobin, a captain of a 8.0 mixed doubles team out of Central Pennsylvania
District (CPD), was just one of the many players who competed in the
recent 18 and Over Mixed Doubles Section Championships. And like most
captains, Tobin spent the weekend (and the past season) organizing,
managing and playing.
Tobin, who
has been around the game of tennis for three decades, said she loves the
atmosphere of USTA League Tennis and is always keeping busy with the
sport.
Tobin is
known by her teammates as a great captain and friend. She also describes
herself as a tennis pro “wanna-be.”
Middle
States sat down with Tobin to discuss being a captain, and tennis in
general.

Tennis
Memory: When Tobin first started playing mixed doubles with her
partner, Eric Weitzel, Weitzel would bring his son, Ryan, to the courts
with him. Tobin would joke around with Weitzel’s son and say, “Some
day, I’m going to trade your Dad in and take you as my partner.” As
the years went by, Tobin and Weitzel split up due to a ratings bump. Since
then, she made true on her promise. Tobin teamed up with Ryan, and the two
are currently on-court partners.
